Job Description
VP of Accounting overseeing GAAP-compliant reporting, budgets, controls, and accounting staff. Chevron Federal Credit Union operates as a $5 billion financial institution.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and/or review month- and quarter-end financial reports, including the NCUA 5300 report
- Analyze assets, liabilities, and capital and prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports
- Research and document abnormalities or significant changes
- Prepare and/or review variance reports, including Budget to Actual analysis
- Work with the Controller to prepare the annual non-interest income and expense budget
- Research and document technical accounting issues to ensure GAAP compliance
- Ensure compliance with regulatory accounting and reporting requirements
- Establish, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of accounting procedures, controls, and general accounting systems with the Controller
- Coach and supervise staff responsible for accounting month-end close
- Manage general ledger and bank reconciliations staff
- Oversee Payroll, Settlement, and Accounts Payable functions
- Respond to management inquiries regarding financial statement data
- Research and respond to federal examiner and internal/external auditor inquiries in written and verbal form
- Evaluate department processes and identify opportunities for improvement and efficient operation
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- 6+ years’ related accounting experience required
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in accounting from four-year college or university
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated qualifications
- CPA preferred
- Excellent knowledge of accounting principles
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
- Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from members, regulatory agencies, or the business community
- Ability to present information to top management, members, and boards of directors in written and oral form
- Ability to write reports and correspondence, including email, using correct spelling and grammar
- Basic math skills, including computing rates, ratios, and percentages using a 10-key
- Proficient in Windows-based applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Moderate keyboard skills at 40 wpm
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to learn specialized applications and systems quickly and adapt to change
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with people at all levels
- Sound problem-solving, decision-making, and prioritization ability
- Ability to write and speak effectively in English
- Must be able to speak and present by telephone or digital communication tools, including Zoom/Teams/video technologies
- Must be able to perform extensive computer work, up to eight hours per day
- May occasionally push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds
