Job Description

VP of Accounting overseeing GAAP-compliant reporting, budgets, controls, and accounting staff. Chevron Federal Credit Union operates as a $5 billion financial institution.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and/or review month- and quarter-end financial reports, including the NCUA 5300 report
  • Analyze assets, liabilities, and capital and prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports
  • Research and document abnormalities or significant changes
  • Prepare and/or review variance reports, including Budget to Actual analysis
  • Work with the Controller to prepare the annual non-interest income and expense budget
  • Research and document technical accounting issues to ensure GAAP compliance
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory accounting and reporting requirements
  • Establish, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of accounting procedures, controls, and general accounting systems with the Controller
  • Coach and supervise staff responsible for accounting month-end close
  • Manage general ledger and bank reconciliations staff
  • Oversee Payroll, Settlement, and Accounts Payable functions
  • Respond to management inquiries regarding financial statement data
  • Research and respond to federal examiner and internal/external auditor inquiries in written and verbal form
  • Evaluate department processes and identify opportunities for improvement and efficient operation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 6+ years’ related accounting experience required
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in accounting from four-year college or university
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated qualifications
  • CPA preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from members, regulatory agencies, or the business community
  • Ability to present information to top management, members, and boards of directors in written and oral form
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence, including email, using correct spelling and grammar
  • Basic math skills, including computing rates, ratios, and percentages using a 10-key
  • Proficient in Windows-based applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Moderate keyboard skills at 40 wpm
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to learn specialized applications and systems quickly and adapt to change
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with people at all levels
  • Sound problem-solving, decision-making, and prioritization ability
  • Ability to write and speak effectively in English
  • Must be able to speak and present by telephone or digital communication tools, including Zoom/Teams/video technologies
  • Must be able to perform extensive computer work, up to eight hours per day
  • May occasionally push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds
