Job Description
Analytics Engineering Lead shaping Tiko’s dbt and Tableau data platform for adolescent health services across Africa. Leading semantic modelling, governance, and analytics engineering enablement.
Responsibilities:
- Define the technical strategy for the data environment
- Mentor another Analytics Engineering Senior
- Build, maintain, and scale reliable, well-documented data models
- Oversee performant, cost-effective dbt and Tableau data model architecture
- Establish clean semantic layers with validated metrics and standardized business logic
- Apply dimensional modelling best practices
- Enforce CI/CD, Git, automated testing, data contracts, and playbooks
- Improve data reliability and organizational self-service analytics
- Mentor and grow the analytics engineering team
- Bridge Data Engineering, Analysts, Product, and Architecture teams
- Align technical strategy with core business goals
- Document work clearly for future use
- Participate in agile rituals and practices
Requirements:
- Proven experience leading, mentoring, or guiding data teams
- Strong stakeholder management experience, particularly with Product and Architecture leads
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in Analytics Engineering and BI Engineering
- Advanced proficiency with dbt, SQL, and analytics-focused data modelling
- Experience with dimensional modelling and ELT/ETL design
- Strong experience building and optimising data models within Tableau
- Deep understanding of CI/CD, Git, automated testing, pull request workflows, and modern data stack tooling
- Ability to translate complex technical data concepts into clear, business-friendly language
- Fluent written and verbal English skills
- Currently based in Portugal, South Africa, or Kenya
- Experience with Airflow or workflow orchestration tools
- Background in Data Engineering, cloud data warehouses, or lakehouse architectures
- Exposure to streaming architectures/event-driven systems such as Kafka or Kinesis
- Hands-on experience building dedicated metric layers such as dbt Semantic Layer, MetricFlow, or LookML
