Job Description
Part-time chaplain providing Christian pastoral care to employees and families. Visiting client worksites, hospitals, homes, and funeral settings across Michigan.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a messenger and conveyor of faith, mission, and purpose
- Interact with companies, employees, and the community while exhibiting character through personal and spiritual disciplines
- Make regular, usually weekly, visits to company worksites to build relationships of trust and friendship motivated by Christian faith
- Visit employees or immediate family members in hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, family residences, and other care locations
- Provide confidential pastoral discussions on family matters, divorce, serious illness, aging parents, death and grief, parenting, financial stress, and other personal issues
- Provide referrals and coordinate specialized assistance for employees and immediate family members
- Assist with planning, conducting, or attending funerals and provide follow-up grief support
- Make jail visits to employees and immediate family members when needed
- Serve notifications of death and serious injuries and encourage affected families and employees
- Provide post-termination care for laid-off or terminated employees
- Facilitate spiritual enrichment activities when appropriate, without leading them
- Provide literature and resources for employees’ life issues
- Represent companies to clients and customers in ministry-related situations such as illness, accidents, traumatic events, and funerals
- Participate in new employee orientation to explain the Employee Care Service and Chaplain Team role
- Perform additional duties requested by company executive leadership with EDO permission and within the Letter of Agreement
Requirements:
- Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary group and in an interfaith setting
- Ability to accept different lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values
- Effective listening and interpersonal interaction skills
- Ability to deliver community presentations
- Ability to deal effectively with family members and staff under stressful circumstances
- High regard for the dignity and worth of clients, employees, and their families
- Ability to cope with stressful situations and document accurately according to standards
- Spiritual maturity and commitment to a Christian lifestyle and MCHAP Ministry values
- Fundamental understanding of the Holy Bible and its proper application
- Saving faith in Jesus Christ and active participation in a biblically based church
- Professional diplomacy, patience, and courtesy with diverse groups
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships
- Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential issues
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Emotional stability when coping with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses
- Skill in analyzing information, defining and following up on problems or objectives
- Ability to identify solutions and solve problems
- Skill in interpreting relevant policies and procedures and keeping others informed
- Computer proficiency using Google Suites, Microsoft Office, internet, email, and web-based software applications
- Ability to learn new technology programs
- Active state driver’s license and state minimum auto insurance where servicing clients
- Must pass a pre-employment background check
