Job Description
Data Architect leading the transformation of Care Lumen's data ecosystem into a scalable SaaS platform. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define data architecture and strategy for healthcare applications.
Responsibilities:
- Assess the current data ecosystem across multiple services and databases, identifying areas for standardization and modernization.
- Define the enterprise data architecture, encompassing operational, analytical, and AI data domains.
- Establish and evangelize data architecture principles, frameworks, and governance models aligned with business objectives.
- Design logical and physical data models that support both transactional and analytical workloads.
- Lead the design of a unified data platform leveraging modern cloud-native data technologies (Databricks, AWS RDS, data pipelines, etc.)
- Define patterns for data ingestion, transformation, and integration (e.g., ETL/ELT pipelines, event streaming, APIs).
- Partner with DevOps to ensure robust CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code for data components.
- Implement data governance practices ensuring consistency, accuracy, and lineage across data assets.
- Collaborate with Compliance and Security to ensure adherence to HIPAA, CMS, and other healthcare regulations.
- Define policies and mechanisms for access control, encryption, retention, and auditing.
- Partner with Product and Analytics teams to translate business needs into data models and pipelines.
- Collaborate with the AI/ML team to design data flows that support predictive and generative AI initiatives.
- Serve as a bridge between engineering and business stakeholders, ensuring data strategy supports decision-making and reporting.
- Guide the selection of technologies and tools for data storage, transformation, and visualization.
- Mentor engineers and analysts on data architecture best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement of data processes through automation and observability.
Requirements:
- 12+ years of experience in data engineering and architecture, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
- Proven success designing and implementing scalable data architectures in complex environments.
- Experience working with healthcare, payer, or regulated data systems is highly desirable.
- Deep understanding of relational and non-relational data modeling, schema design, and normalization/denormalization strategies.
- Strong background in AWS data stack.
- Expertise with modern data integration frameworks and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Kafka, or AWS Step Functions).
- Familiarity with data mesh, data fabric, and lakehouse architectural concepts. Databricks a plus.
- Experience establishing data governance frameworks and metadata management practices.
- Knowledge of PHI handling, HIPAA compliance, and secure data exchange standards (FHIR, HL7, CMS interoperability rules).
- Working knowledge and experience with data catalogs.
- A pragmatic architect who balances long-term vision with incremental delivery.
- Strong communication and influencing skills across technical and business audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change and drive alignment in multi-team environments.
- Experience with healthcare payer platforms, claims data, or population health systems.
- Familiarity with AI/ML data pipelines, feature stores, and model-serving architectures.
- Contributions to data architecture communities, open-source tools, or published best practices.
