Job Description

Engineering Manager leading Stripe’s Abuse Control Engineering team. Closing cross-product abuse gaps and deploying durable safeguards across Stripe’s financial infrastructure platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team responsible for closing urgent, cross-product defense gaps and incubating controls until long-term ownership.
  • Set technical direction and communicate strategy and priorities for identifying abuse gaps and preventing threat recurrence.
  • Hire, manage, coach, and support engineers; provide feedback and career-growth opportunities.
  • Turn attacker evidence into technical priorities and guide safeguard design and evaluation.
  • Partner with Application Security and product engineering teams on resilient safeguards.
  • Oversee experiments assessing risk reduction and effects on legitimate user conversion.
  • Build regression tests and mechanisms to detect recurring abuse patterns.
  • Establish incubation success measures, documentation, handoff criteria, ownership, and target dates.
  • Transfer successful controls to permanent product owners.
  • Align security, product, engineering, and other partners on urgent execution.

Requirements:

  • Experience managing an engineering team, including setting direction, prioritizing work, and being accountable for delivery and technical outcomes.
  • Relevant technical foundation in software engineering, security engineering, application security, anti-abuse engineering, or a closely related field, developed through professional experience, education, or an equivalent path.
  • Experience hiring, coaching, and developing engineers with different levels of experience, including providing actionable feedback and supporting career growth.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical work involving teams with different goals, areas of expertise, or ownership boundaries.
  • Ability to evaluate technical designs and guide engineering decisions involving reliability, security, risk, and product tradeoffs.
  • Experience communicating technical strategy, priorities, risks, and decisions clearly.
  • Ability to create clarity in ambiguous or urgent situations and translate broad risk problems into actionable plans, ownership, and measurable outcomes.
  • Preferred: experimentation or A/B testing; threat modeling; secure systems design; application security; API safeguards and abuse controls; financial-fraud patterns; large-scale data platforms; technical capability incubation and handoffs; distributed-team leadership.
