Job Description
Legal Intern supporting insurance, claims, underwriting, employment, and compliance matters. CNO Financial Group provides insurance and financial services to middle-income America.
Responsibilities:
- Work alongside Legal Counsel associates
- Gather and analyze facts and apply appropriate laws, regulations, and legal standards
- Assist with providing legal counsel related to insurance contracts, marketing agreements, sales and marketing materials, policy interpretation, claims processes, and individual claims
- Support individual, worksite, and group underwriting processes for life and health insurance policies
- Address policyholder issues
- Assist with attorney, consumer, and regulatory inquiries and complaints
- Support risk assessment and mitigation in fraud investigations and determinations
- Assist with employment matters
- Work with and provide support to Compliance, Employment, Litigation, Privacy, Legal Operations, and Government Relations within the Law Department
- Participate in internship program activities including networking, leader talks, career counseling, development opportunities, product and industry presentations, final presentations, and volunteering
- Attend an in-person event at one of the corporate offices during one week of the internship program
Requirements:
- Must currently possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
- Company does not intend to sponsor work visas for this position or future full-time employment opportunities
- Progress towards a JD degree, having completed the first year of law school
- Availability to work 40 hrs/week for 10–12 weeks during the summer
- Candidate location in Central or Eastern US time zone is preferred, or willingness to work Central or Eastern time zone business hours
- Prior internship experience preferred
- Balancing education and a part time job during the school year preferred
- Participation with university clubs preferred
