Job Description
Mechanical Engineer designing and supporting manufacturing of electronic enclosures for high-volume production at Glydways. Collaborating with various teams to ensure robust designs ready for mass production.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop enclosures, brackets, and other mechanical components for ECUs, sensors, control modules, and power electronics, focusing on high-volume, cost-effective manufacturing.
- Collaborate with electronics hardware teams to assess and improve the mechanical robustness of designs during early development phases.
- Use GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to create detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Work with suppliers to ensure components and assemblies meet automotive quality standards.
- Conduct DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly) analyses to optimize designs for production.
- Support the execution of mechanical reliability tests (e.g., vibration, thermal cycling, environmental stress) on ECU enclosures.
- Analyze field performance data and warranty returns to identify mechanical design issues and drive corrective actions.
- Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate potential mechanical failures.
- Act as a subject matter expert for mechanical design best practices within the organization.
- Generate technical documentation, including mechanical test plans, reports, and qualification summaries.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5-10 years of experience in product development, with a focus on mechanical design for electronics, preferably in the automotive or related industries.
- Proven experience designing, validating and manufacturing mechanical enclosures for electronics.
- Experience with various manufacturing processes - extensive die cast experience highly preferred.
- Expertise in CAD software, with CATIA preferred.
- Strong understanding of GD&T - both interpretation and application.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical stress and life testing.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience working with global suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Familiarity with automotive quality standards (e.g., IATF 16949, ISO 26262).
