Job Description
Medical Coder supporting Mercy Urgent Care’s patient care through accurate visit coding and insurance billing. Handling claims, payments, denials, appeals, and patient phone inquiries remotely.
Responsibilities:
- Interact daily by phone with patients/customers to answer questions or receive payments
- Code patient visits daily
- Assist team members with billing and insurance questions
- Bill patient visits weekly through an employee rotation pattern
- Interact daily by phone with insurance companies to resolve payment issues
- File electronic insurance claims and appeals
- Respond to claim denials
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least two years of coding experience required
- Previous experience with claims, payment posting, denials, appeals, and coding
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, and Workers’ Compensation insurance billing guidelines
- Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills by phone or in person
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Must be able to work full days from home without interruptions
- Must be located within a two-hour drive from Shepherdsville, Kentucky
- Constant ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer
- Constant use of hands for typing
- Ability to speak by phone for at least 50% of the day
- Certificate in Coding preferred
