Job Description
Medical Coder applying ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to patient records and claims. Supporting billing accuracy, audits, compliance, and biller training remotely.
Responsibilities:
- Apply accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on documentation and services rendered
- Ensure proper code sequencing, modifiers, and compliance with payer and regulatory guidelines
- Review and correct coding-related errors, denials, or rejected claims
- Complete appropriate documentation or system entries regarding claims
- Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding
- Review patient medical records and clinical documentation
- Identify incomplete or missing documentation and coordinate provider queries
- Stay updated with coding rules, payer policies, and healthcare regulations
- Support clean claim submission and billing accuracy
- Coordinate with Billing, AR, and Authorization teams
- Maintain productivity and accuracy standards
- Support audit and compliance activities
- Participate in internal and client quality audits/reviews
- Train, coach, and guide billers to ensure accurate coding and billing processes
- Remain current on medical coding, billing guidelines, and auditing protocols
- Follow team and/or client procedures, policies, and methodologies
Requirements:
- Ability to work with and maintain confidential information
- Graduate of Medical allied courses; Nurses, Physical Therapist, Medical Technologist (preferred but not required)
- Minimum 6-month consultancy contract, subject to renewal
- 1–3 years’ experience in Medical Coding
- Preferably Gastroenterology or Same Day Surgery exposure
- Active coding license (e.g., CPC)
- Flexibility in handling different specialties and client assignments
- Understanding of ICD-9 or ICD-10 coding
- Team player able and willing to assist, coach, and train billers on coding-specific requirements
- Able to provide and share coding knowledge with team members
- Data entry skills of 50–60 accurate keystrokes per minute
- Strong accuracy, attention to detail, and time management skills
- Ability to work from home with reliable internet and backup connection
