Job Description
Medical Records Clerk supporting Humana’s healthcare records release and privacy operations remotely in Florida. Processing PHI requests, maintaining documentation, and tracking compliance policies.
Responsibilities:
- Review and respond to patient, government, and third-party requests for release of medical information
- Triage medical record requests through established departmental workflows
- Process requests according to state and federal privacy laws, organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Counsel and assist requesters with the medical record request process
- Identify release request types and complete or route requests to the appropriate department
- Recognize PHI requests requiring additional review or action and follow procedures
- Validate authorizations and requests using checklists and guidelines
- Securely manage and release medical information through electronic systems, email, fax, or mail
- Review requests for completeness and obtain missing information, documentation, authorizations, or signatures
- Maintain detailed documentation and notes from request receipt through completion
- Create reports to monitor request volumes and turnaround times
- Extract information from internal systems to complete requests
- Maintain patient confidentiality and protect sensitive medical and health information
- Help implement and maintain medical records processes meeting professional and legal standards
- Track policy updates and annual policy review dates
- Provide administrative support for policies, procedures, medical records, and policy tracking
- Complete required annual training and remain current on applicable policies, procedures, and privacy laws
- Report to the Senior Compliance Professional
Requirements:
- Computer skills and ability to learn new systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe
- Strong customer service skills and service-oriented approach while working independently
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet established turnaround times
- Ability to work in a high-volume environment with frequent interruptions
- Ability to handle confidential and protected health information
- Self-provided internet service with at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speed
- Dedicated workspace without ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI/HIPAA information
- Preferred: One year of experience working in a healthcare setting
- Preferred: Experience reading and understanding clinical or hospital health records
- Preferred: Previous medical records or release-of-information experience
- Preferred: Experience with electronic medical record (EMR/EHR) systems
- Preferred: Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare privacy requirements
- Preferred: Experience with Adobe Acrobat Professional or similar software for combining, organizing, bookmarking, redacting, and password-protecting medical record files
- Preferred: Associate's or bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, health information management, or a related field
