Job Description
Field-based Medical Science Liaison supporting PTC Therapeutics’ rare-disease medicines. Building scientific relationships with clinicians, KOLs, payors, and academic institutions across the Mid Atlantic.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a field-based Medical Science Liaison within Medical Affairs
- Support and represent PTC and its products with KOLs, clinicians, academic institutions, and professional organizations
- Respond to unsolicited requests for information about PTC marketed and developing products
- Build long-term relationships and establish rapport with clinicians through scientific product and disease-state discussions
- Provide medical and clinical expertise on company products and support safe and effective product utilization
- Attend national and regional medical meetings and symposia; engage attendees, attend scientific sessions, gather information, and summarize findings
- Deliver fair-balanced, objective clinical and scientific presentations to HCPs, payors, and patient organizations
- Identify speakers for advisory boards, symposia, and educational programs
- Support regional medical initiatives such as advisory boards
- Provide management with input on competitive therapies, business development opportunities and risks, and market insights
- Establish and maintain relationships with health authorities, KOLs, HCPs, academic institutions, payors, and patient organizations
- Facilitate submissions for unrestricted educational grants and research initiatives
- Maintain awareness of medical/clinical, regulatory, compliance, and quality requirements and support company SOPs
- Maintain and analyze competitor information and communicate relevant intelligence to internal stakeholders
- Work cross-functionally with internal departments and external resources on Medical Affairs issues
Requirements:
- Advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, DNP, MSN, MS, Registered Dietician, or Genetic Counselor)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as Medical Science Liaison
- Experience supporting an orphan product and/or previous clinical experience in Inborn Errors of Metabolism, genetics, and/or rare diseases
- Experience in Phenylketonuria is preferred
- Experience supporting high-cost products distributed through a specialty pharmacy and requiring extensive coordination with patient access services
- In-depth, hands-on experience working with KOLs, clinicians, HCPs, payors and/or academic institutions
- Demonstrated success interpreting scientific data and presenting research information to scientists and HCPs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including scientific/technical writing and presentations
- Excellent understanding of the pharmaceutical delivery process
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed team environment
- Analytical thinking, excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
- Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills
- Valid driver’s license and personal automobile with an active vehicle insurance policy
- Ability to travel daily to/from customer accounts and drive and/or fly long distances
- Ability to meet medical-facility vendor credentialing requirements, including training, background checks, and proof of immunization
- Willingness and ability to travel 50–60%
