Job Description
Medical Science Liaison advancing Shionogi’s rare-disease products through scientific exchange, clinical-trial support, and healthcare-provider relationships. Home-based role covering Los Angeles with 75% travel.
Responsibilities:
- Bridge internal strategy with external medical insights through field interactions with the healthcare community
- Support disease awareness activities within the assigned field territory
- Participate in scientific exchange and gather information about unmet medical needs and treatment paradigms
- Contribute to organizational processes, procedures, and best practices
- Serve as a medical resource to healthcare providers, clinical investigators, clinical study sites, and healthcare decision makers regarding investigational and marketed products
- Support product commercialization
- Develop and maintain scientific relationships with healthcare practitioners, clinical investigators, and healthcare decision makers
- Provide medical and scientific support for selected therapeutic areas
- Attend and support scientific and medical meetings
- Disseminate clinical and competitive insights and prepare post-meeting deliverables
- Respond to unsolicited requests with truthful, non-misleading, non-promotional product information
- Assist with educational materials, FAQs, site education, and home office and field colleague training
- Present information to healthcare professionals who provide peer education
- Support Phase 3, Phase 4, and Investigator Sponsored Trials
- Ensure medical education activities comply with relevant guidance, rules, and regulations
- Support medical initiatives across other therapeutic areas as needed
- Collaborate with sister and parent companies on product development, clinical investigators, and clinical study sites
- Complete assigned company and job-related training
- Report to the Field Medical Director, Medical Affairs
- Work cross-functionally with Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, R&D, Finance, Legal, and global counterparts
Requirements:
- Advanced degree in the life sciences (MD, DO, PharmD, or PhD), or licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)
- NP and PA candidates with related clinical experience will be considered
- MBA/CNS preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience
- Medical Affairs experience in Pharmaceutical, Biotech or related scientific medical experience required
- Rare disease experience preferred; ALS experience is a plus
- Knowledge of GCP and experience with clinical trial operations required
- Customer relationship management experience is a plus, including thought leader development, speaker bureau training, and formulary presentations
- AMCP dossier and Health Economics and Outcomes Research knowledge and/or experience preferred
- Prior launch experience strongly preferred
- Proven competence in clinical therapeutics, drug development, business and market knowledge, and strategic resource management
- Thorough understanding of FDA, OIG, ACCME, HIPPA and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry
- Ability to rapidly learn new therapeutic areas
- Excellent interpersonal, networking, verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Strong analytical and evaluative skills
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment
- Ability to interface effectively with technical platforms for collecting, reviewing, and disseminating medical information
- Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and virtual platforms such as WebEx
- Required to travel 75% of the time, or as needed, from a home-based office
- Required to attend occasional weekend events
