Job Description
Senior Data Engineer owning finance data pipelines and models for Instacart, a grocery delivery platform. Supporting accounting, billing, revenue, and financial reporting at scale.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with finance, accounting, billing, and revenue teams to translate pain points into self-serve, reliable, scalable data solutions
- Mentor team members and champion engineering excellence across the organization
- Manage initiatives from design through execution with substantial ownership and autonomy
- Suggest and drive organization-wide initiatives shaping the financial data vision and roadmap
- Own critical data integration pipelines and models for uniform, reliable, timely, and accurate financial reporting
- Shape finance data systems through design, technical decisions, project management, and execution
- Support monthly and quarterly book close, retailer invoicing, and internal and external financial reporting
Requirements:
- 8+ years of working experience in a Data/Software Engineering role focused on building data pipelines specialized in financial data
- Strong knowledge of cloud-based data warehouses such as Snowflake, Redshift, and BigQuery
- Strong production knowledge of Python, Airflow, Spark, Iceberg, and Delta Lake
- Expert data modeling experience, including complex financial data with scalability and usability
- Expert SQL and dbt (Data Build Tool) skills
- Experience building high-quality, complex ETL/ELT pipelines, including accounting and billing pipelines
- Experience with data immutability, auditability, slowly changing dimensions, or similar concepts
- Ability to communicate fluently with cross-functional stakeholders to drive requirements and design shared datasets
- Ability to balance urgency with high-quality, pragmatic solutions
- Experience working with a large codebase on a cross-functional team
- Experience with SOX-controlled data systems preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent work experience preferred
