Job Description
Senior contract engineer building scalable data pipelines and platform services for Nimble’s software that helps schools recruit educators. Designing reliable systems and data-intensive products for education leaders.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and operate data pipelines ingesting messy, high-volume external data
- Integrate with third-party platforms and maintain reliable data flows
- Identify data quality issues and build systems that fix root causes
- Shape architecture for data-intensive products used by state and district leaders
- Build and extend services within a service-oriented architecture
- Follow team standards for system design, testing, and code quality
- Write well-tested, maintainable code
- Review others’ work
- Simplify and improve systems
- Lead complex software projects from design through launch
Requirements:
- 7+ years building production software, with a track record of leading complex projects from design to launch
- Strong data modeling skills
- Strong distributed systems fundamentals: queues, retries, idempotency, concurrency, failure modes, and reasoning about them
- Experience building services in a service-oriented architecture with clear boundaries and well-defined APIs
- Hands-on experience building and operating modern ETL/ELT pipelines and third-party integrations at scale
- Strong programming skills in TypeScript and Python
- Solid SQL, preferably Postgres, including query performance and indexing
- AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, agents, or custom workflows as a core part of development
- High bar for code quality; well-tested, readable code; thoughtful reviews; clear and proactive communication, especially asynchronously
- Willingness to work ideally 20–30 hours per week with 4–6 hours of overlap with US Central time
