Job Description
Senior ML Engineer building production ML and smart-routing infrastructure at Primer, the unified infrastructure platform for global payments. Shaping the company’s ML function remotely.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the first Senior Engineer in ML and help build the ML function alongside the Staff Engineer
- Own the full lifecycle of ML-powered features, from research and testing through training, deployment, and production monitoring
- Productionise smart-routing decisions across the payment flow
- Build ML infrastructure including versioning, CI/CD, and observability
- Partner with product, data, and engineering to turn use cases into shipped, measured outcomes
- Design pragmatic experiments and evaluate models based on impact
- Mentor engineers learning ML techniques
- Speak directly with customers to validate ideas and test solutions against real usage
- Help set technical direction and prioritise ML use cases
- Establish reliable, repeatable ML patterns and practices at Primer
- Report to engineering leadership
Requirements:
- Senior experience in ML engineering, data science, or applied research, with real production deployments via API, batch, or streaming
- Ability to design and run statistical experiments and A/B tests and report what results do and do not show
- Strong Python skills
- Hands-on experience with scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras
- Solid grounding in modern software engineering, infrastructure, and data tooling
- Understanding of MLOps challenges across the full ML lifecycle
- Familiarity with reinforcement learning, such as multi-armed or contextual bandits
- Cloud experience; AWS preferred, with GCP or Azure acceptable
- Comfort researching, developing, and productionising independently
- Payments or e-commerce exposure is a plus, not a prerequisite
