Job Description
Student Services Advisor supporting Ancora Education’s online students through academic advising, retention, and graduation planning. Managing student engagement, progress, and intervention strategies across multiple programs.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain the primary relationship between students and the school as the single point of contact until successful completion of the academic program
- Act as liaison between students and the school regarding academic success, progression, retention and post-graduation planning
- Advise students on skills for success in online and virtual learning
- Provide accurate information on school policies, procedures and best practices
- Coordinate resources and advise based on individual academic and personal/social needs
- Proactively communicate with students experiencing academic or attendance problems and support corrective action
- Monitor student engagement, retention, academic progress, satisfaction and graduation outcomes
- Ensure student service activities comply with department and organizational policies and procedures
- Create academic planning activities supporting timely program completion and graduation
- Contact students through written and verbal communications regarding academic status, program progress and on-time graduation
- Provide graduation candidacy information to campus personnel and audit student schedules for graduation candidacy
- Lead student retention efforts through student data analysis and high-touch outreach
- Contribute to company best practices for proactive student engagement
- Advise students with Financial Aid regarding enrollment-status changes, financial options and obligations
- Develop and maintain remediation plans related to satisfactory academic progress
- Direct retention activities for newly-enrolled, continuing and re-entry cohorts through daily activities and attendance-tracking analysis
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferred in a related field such as Education, Sociology, Psychology or Social Work
- Demonstrates knowledge of current instructional and assessment models, methodologies and software
- Analyzes problems, identifies alternative solutions, projects consequences of proposed actions, recommends best options and implements approved solution(s) in support of corporate goals
- Works independently in the absence of supervision
- Uses initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
- Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all clients contacted in the course of work
- Working knowledge of common office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email
- Working knowledge of education software, including LMS, CRM and CampusVue strongly preferred
- Business letter writing and report preparation
- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Previous experience in online/virtual learning as a student teacher or academic advisor
- 2+ years of experience in online/virtual customer service, academic advising, student services and/or high-risk account management
- Ability to meet the stated physical demands, including occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
