Job Description
UI/UX Designer creating user-centered designs for applications supporting the Department of Homeland Security. Collaborating within agile teams in developing cloud-native applications.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as an Agile Scrum team member providing UI/UX design and development for the delivery of releasable software in short sprint cycles.
- Responsible for activities associated with software projects by working in close collaboration with business analysts, software developers/engineers, stakeholders, and end users within Agile processes.
- Conceptualizing and designing custom software application capabilities for a variety of legacy and modernized systems with limited oversight.
- Lead the design of a cohesive look-and-feel and standardized user experience across the applications.
- Taking a leadership role in collaborations between the creative strategy, UX, visual design, development team, and client to create effective design strategies.
- Developing compelling, creative, and user-focused experiences and points of view that align with clients’ business objectives.
- Collaborating with cross discipline team to create and execute experience style guides, interaction patterns, and information design standards.
- Develop wireframes, mockups, and/or prototypes supporting design ideas and effectively communicate ideas to various stakeholders.
- Establish standard layout and style libraries across applications.
- Work closely the functional team to determine feasibility of requirements and collaborate on design ideas and improvements.
- Ensuring product quality and timeliness of work, providing advice and guidance, resolving problems to meet objectives, and providing periodic performance reports.
- Providing mentoring to junior members of the team.
Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to pass CBP background investigation
- Degree in a related field, such as Interactive Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Graphic Design or Human Factors
- 5 + years’ experience as a visual designer, interaction designer, experience designer or a similar role
- Professional experience with enterprise UI design tools such as Figma (preferred), Axure, or similar tools
- Professional experience communicating designs with stakeholders such as product owners, end users, development teams, and management
- Ability to understand trade-offs between designs, technical feasibility, and maintenance
- Design Thinking certifications such as those offered through IDEO, Stanford, Cornell, MIT or a host of other organizations.
- Proven experience designing for web accessibility (Section 508 standards)
- Experience with information architecture.
- Ability and interest in educating others on user-centered design best practices.
