Job Description
Backend Developer building PHP APIs and services for Pepperstone, a global forex and CFD broker. Ensuring secure, scalable trading-platform systems and optimized relational databases.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services in PHP
- Write efficient, scalable, and secure server-side logic for a high-volume financial platform
- Design relational database schemas, write complex queries, and optimise performance
- Integrate third-party services, payment systems, data providers, and internal APIs
- Collaborate with front-end engineers on system integration
- Participate in code reviews and uphold backend engineering standards
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and security vulnerabilities
- Contribute to technical documentation and maintain well-structured codebases
Requirements:
- 3 to 5 years of backend development experience with a strong PHP focus
- Deep understanding of RESTful API design principles and best practices
- Solid experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimisation
- Strong grasp of backend security fundamentals, including authentication, authorisation, data handling, and input validation
- Experience working with Git in a team development environment
- Ability to write clean, efficient, and well-tested code
- Strong analytical and debugging skills with a systematic approach to problem solving
- Experience in fintech, trading, or regulated financial services environments is advantageous
- Familiarity with microservices architecture or event-driven systems is advantageous
- Exposure to AWS, GCP, or Azure is advantageous
- Experience with RabbitMQ or Kafka is advantageous
- Knowledge of Redis or Memcached caching strategies is advantageous
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Docker is advantageous
