Job Description

Commercial auto claims examiner resolving complex New York liability claims for an insurance client. Evaluating coverage, reserves, settlements, litigation, and recovery opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Review, process, investigate, evaluate, and conclude assigned complex Commercial Auto property and casualty claims with total incurred amounts of $25,000
  • Review policy information, endorsements, and vehicle schedules to determine coverage for loss, damage, or injury
  • Conduct claim examinations and investigations through final resolution of New York liability claims, including litigation matters
  • Oversee and direct outside investigative service providers
  • Work with the client, client counsel, and investigative services to advance claims to conclusion
  • Maintain an ongoing claim diary
  • Assess exposure and evaluate reserves and settlement recommendations
  • Prepare loss reports analyzing liability and damages
  • Determine and initiate subrogation or risk-transfer recovery efforts when applicable and directed by the client
  • Document correspondence, reports, discussions, and decisions in claim files
  • Provide outstanding client service
  • Assist supervisors and the Claims Department with requested tasks and special projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum five (5) years of commercial auto casualty-related experience
  • At least 5 years of commercial automobile liability claims experience required
  • Knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices, and techniques, including coverage issues and product-line knowledge
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced analytical, decision-making, and negotiation skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, orally and in writing
  • Ability to manage relationships in a fast-paced environment
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to review, exercise judgment, and evaluate claims with minimal supervision
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Understanding of the litigation process and case valuation in multiple jurisdictions
  • Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and respond effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to handle assigned claims according to company guidelines and industry best practices with minimal supervision
  • Time-management, organizational, prioritization, independence, flexibility, and creativity skills
  • Ability to effectively operate computer equipment and applications
  • Valid New York adjuster license
