Job Description
Database Engineer at Xcellent Technology Solutions optimizing data systems for environmental research. Collaborate with federal stakeholders on scalable solutions in a remote role.
Responsibilities:
- Help design, support, and optimize the data systems that power critical environmental research for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
- Ensure that large volumes of environmental data are efficiently stored, managed, and delivered across modern cloud and hybrid environments.
- Work closely with federal stakeholders and technical teams to develop scalable solutions that support data orchestration, automation, and operational reliability.
- Manage PostgreSQL databases, optimize SQL based workflows, and support Python driven automation and CI/CD processes that keep data systems running smoothly.
- Ensure data integrity, improve system performance, and support the continuous flow of mission critical information across research and operational platforms.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Or at least 4 years of relevant experience accompanied by active IT certifications Or at least 8 years of experience in lieu of a degree
- Experience writing efficient SQL, managing PostgreSQL databases, and handling large datasets to ensure accurate and high-performance data processing
- Proficient in Python for automating data workflows and improving data management efficiency
- Experience with CI/CD practices, including automating database provisioning and using GitLab or GitHub for version control and deployment workflows
- Comfortable using AWS services such as EC2, S3, and RDS to deploy, manage, and scale cloud-based applications and databases
