Job Description
Google Cloud Platform Operations Engineer managing GCP environments for a leading global technology firm. Responsible for availability, reliability and operational excellence in cloud solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain production GCP environments, ensuring availability, performance and scalability for critical applications and services
- Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, Deployment Manager or similar, enabling repeatable and auditable deployments
- Build, maintain and optimise CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using tools like Cloud Build, Jenkins, GitLab CI or equivalent
- Design and implement monitoring, alerting and observability solutions using Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Prometheus, Grafana and related tooling
- Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents; perform root cause analysis and drive corrective and preventive actions to improve system reliability
- Manage networking, load balancing, VPN/Interconnect, VPCs, Cloud DNS and related GCP networking components
- Configure and operate compute, storage and database services (Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, BigQuery) following best practices for security and cost optimisation
- Implement and maintain identity, access and security controls using Cloud IAM, Secrets Manager, KMS, and integrate with enterprise identity providers
- Automate operational tasks and runbooks with scripting (Python, Bash, Go) and orchestration frameworks to reduce manual toil
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide timely incident response and incident communications to stakeholders
- Collaborate with developers, platform engineers and security teams to support continuous improvement, capacity planning and cost management
- Produce and maintain high-quality operational documentation, runbooks, architecture diagrams and post-incident reports
- Contribute to cloud migration, modernisation and platform standardisation programmes, helping to define operational standards and best practices
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Cloud Operations or Site Reliability Engineer, with hands-on operational experience in Google Cloud Platform
- Practical experience with GCP services including GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Cloud IAM and networking components
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred) and configuration management tools
- Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, Go or similar) and experience automating operational tasks
- Experience building and maintaining observability and monitoring (Cloud Monitoring, Logging, Prometheus, Grafana) and managing alerts and SLIs/SLOs
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools (Cloud Build, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Argo CD) and container orchestration (Kubernetes/GKE)
- Good understanding of cloud networking, security controls, identity management and encryption best practices
- Proven ability to troubleshoot production incidents, perform root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with experience working in cross-functional and international teams
- Relevant certifications (e.g. Google Cloud Professional Cloud Engineer, Professional Cloud Security Engineer, or equivalent) are advantageous
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Fluent English (C1 or above); knowledge of Bulgarian is advantageous but not required.
