Job Description
Geospatial Data Engineer building scalable GIS pipelines and data products for Arden University. Supporting evidence-based decisions across its expanding digital higher-education ecosystem.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and deliver high-quality geospatial data pipelines and features
- Take technical ownership of geospatial data curation and GIS-based analysis
- Develop reliable and scalable solutions for managing, integrating and accessing geospatial data
- Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, analysts and business teams
- Ensure geospatial data flows effectively through the data environment
- Support the development of valuable data products and evidence-based decision-making
- Apply technical expertise to large-scale datasets
- Contribute to wider data engineering priorities, including data governance, data quality and operational support
- Report to the Head of Data Product Development and work closely with the Data Product Lead and Lead Engineer
Requirements:
- Relevant degree or qualification, or equivalent professional experience, with strong competencies in geospatial data engineering and analysis
- Extensive relevant professional experience demonstrating broad and/or specialist knowledge of geospatial engineering and analysis
- Experience processing, cleansing and preparing geospatial data for GIS production and analytical use
- Experience using ArcGIS, QGIS or other GIS software
- Strong understanding of coordinate systems, projections, spatial joins, catchment analysis and network analysis
- Experience using geospatial data and analytics to create business value and contribute to data products
- Ability to communicate geospatial insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks and Snowflake
- Experience programming with Python, R and/or SQL
- Good understanding of modern data engineering principles, practices and patterns
- Experience with Git, code reviews, testing, CI/CD and deployment practices
- Desirable: experience with data and analytics tooling within Microsoft Fabric
- Desirable: experience with agile project management processes such as Scrum
- Desirable: experience in network location planning and catchment creation and analysis
- Desirable: knowledge of geospatial data science methodologies such as gravity modelling and catchment prediction
- Candidates must have or be able to obtain the right to work in the UK; the employer cannot sponsor a Skilled Worker visa for this role
