Job Description
Lead Data Engineer building scalable GCP data pipelines and governed analytics products for Highmark Health. Mentoring engineers and enabling healthcare business intelligence.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain robust data processes and solutions
- Lead efficient movement and transformation of data across multiple systems
- Develop and maintain data models, databases, and data warehouses for business intelligence and analytics
- Collaborate with IT, product, analytics, business teams, and stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver data solutions
- Mentor associate, intermediate, and senior data engineers as needed
- Collaborate with Data Leaders to ensure consistency across systems and platforms
- Monitor production schedules, provide progress updates, and report issues or technical difficulties
- Implement and manage data governance practices, including data quality, integrity, and regulatory compliance
- Stay current with data engineering trends and recommend tools and best practices
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen due to contractual/access requirements
- 7 years of experience designing and analyzing algorithms, data structures, and design patterns for scalable, highly available systems
- 7 years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or data management
- 7 years of experience with SQL and database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB
- 7 years of experience with data warehouse solutions and concepts such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Proficiency in Google Cloud Platform, including BigQuery, DataFlow, Cloud Composer/Managed Airflow, DataProc, Cloud Run, and DataPlex
- Proficiency in SQL and Python
- Experience with data models, databases, data warehouses, data governance, and data quality
- Preferred experience with dbt, Starburst/Trino, Monte Carlo, Soda, Atlan, Collibra, Apache Iceberg, and Delta Lake
- Preferred 5+ years with GCP data services, on-premise databases including Oracle, Teradata, and DB2, and Unix/Linux environments
- Ability to mentor junior data engineers
- Compliance with HIPAA, data security guidelines, company policies, and applicable laws
- No additional language required beyond English
