Job Description
Lead VFX Artist at Stormind Games creating high-quality real-time visual effects for video games. Mentor the VFX team and drive the artistic and technical vision across projects.
Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain the artistic and technical vision for visual effects across projects.
- Lead, mentor, and support the VFX team, fostering professional growth and high-quality output.
- Create and implement high-quality real-time visual effects (explosions, fire, smoke, magic, particles, environmental interactions).
- Collaborate closely with the Art Director to ensure VFX align with the overall art direction.
- Work with Game Designers and Technical Artists to integrate VFX seamlessly into gameplay systems.
- Oversee VFX pipelines, workflows, and best practices, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
- Ensure all visual effects are optimized for performance across target platforms.
- Review, iterate, and provide constructive feedback on team-created VFX.
- Prototype new ideas and techniques, evaluating feasibility and visual impact.
- Collaborate with QA to identify and resolve visual or performance-related issues.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a VFX Artist in video game development.
- Previous experience in a Lead or Senior VFX role.
- Strong expertise in real-time VFX creation using modern game engines (e.g. Unreal Engine, Unity).
- Solid understanding of shaders, particles, materials, and real-time rendering pipelines.
- Strong proficiency with Houdini for procedural VFX, simulations, and real-time asset creation, including integration into game engines.
- Proven experience optimizing VFX for performance on multiple platforms.
- Ability to guide artistic direction while maintaining technical feasibility.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in a production environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on shipped AAA or AA titles.
- Familiarity with console development and platform-specific constraints.
- Experience defining and maintaining VFX pipelines and team standards.
- Knowledge of scripting or technical art workflows.
