Job Description
Loss Control Specialist reducing workplace injuries for Zenith workers’ compensation clients. Conducting safety surveys, designing risk controls, and coordinating large-account services across Southern California.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct assigned underwriting surveys at prospect and policyholder locations
- Define business operations, key employee injury/illness exposures, and controls
- Identify and evaluate workplace safety and health exposures, including ergonomics, machinery, falls, motor vehicles, and occupational disease
- Evaluate the effectiveness of safety and health programs
- Identify complex engineering and administrative controls to reduce workers’ compensation loss potential
- Use evidence-based safety and health methods to identify trends and prioritize multi-location service needs
- Develop safety and health service plans and provide ongoing consultation
- Oversee the work and recommendations of other Safety & Health staff servicing assigned accounts
- Ensure effective and cost-efficient service delivery
- Influence policyholder decision-makers to implement recommendations
- Prepare reports for policyholders and internal partners, including executive summaries and year-end reports
- Develop and conduct policyholder training
- Investigate serious workers’ compensation incidents
- Build and maintain policyholder and agency relationships
- Market Zenith and the Safety & Health department within cross-functional marketing teams
- Partner with regional and corporate Safety & Health leaders to improve service delivery and account performance
- Meet standards for work quality, productivity, and service time
- Participate in projects and perform other assigned duties
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; preferred field of study in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, science, or engineering
- Safety or health-related Master’s Degree; or at least one recognized professional designation such as CSP, ARM or CIH required
- 5+ years safety and health experience required
- Proven track record of results coordinating service to large and multi-location accounts required
- Familiarity with P&C insurance agent and broker operations strongly preferred
- Strong ability to obtain, analyze and report loss data
- Knowledge of workers’ compensation insurance, including experience modification, underwriting, loss sensitive plans, and claims practices
- Working knowledge of return to work program features and benefits
- Strong understanding of workers’ compensation insurance carrier key performance measures and Safety & Health department financial impact
- Basic understanding of occupational medicine provider network features and benefits
- Effective communication, sales, and presentation skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other common business software
- Ability to learn and use proprietary Zenith systems
- Driver License in good standing
