Job Description
Remote Marine Claims Adjuster handling inland marine property and liability claims. Investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving commercial and personal insurance losses.
Responsibilities:
- Handle minimal to moderately complex marine inside property and liability claims
- Primarily handle claims with exposures up to $25,000
- Handle marine and inland marine claims across Residential Builders Risk, Ocean Marine, Boat Dealers & Owned Boats, Fine Art & Valuables, Musical Instruments & Dealers, Motor Truck Cargo & Transportation, Warehouse Legal Liability, Contractors Equipment & Equipment Dealers, and Railroad Rolling Stock
- Analyze, investigate, evaluate, negotiate and resolve claims
- Conduct thorough investigations, including telephone contacts with involved parties
- Work within specific limits and authority on assignments of moderate technical complexity
- Use discretion and independent judgment in claim handling
- Identify potentially suspicious claims
- Apply technical knowledge of products and the insurance industry
- Interpret commercial coverages
- Handle claims involving minimal to moderate complexity, severity and exposures
Requirements:
- Associate degree required; bachelor's degree preferred or combination of education and experience
- Typically 2-3 years of relevant experience in claim handling
- Must have or secure and maintain appropriate state adjuster license(s) and continuing education credits
- Able to read and interpret business contracts
- Demonstrates or is working toward core commercial loss scoping and estimating skills
- Demonstrates a base understanding of the Marine and Inland Marine classes of business, including the nationwide definition of Inland Marine
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to negotiate skillfully in difficult situations with both internal and external groups
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of applicable statutes, regulations and case law
- Critical thinking and timely problem-solving ability
- Ability to adapt to changing situations, requirements or priorities
- Computer experience (MS Office, Excel, Word, etc.)
- Proficient using claims systems (i.e. CMX, PMS, etc.)
- May be required to have and maintain sufficient home-based internet connection
