Job Description

Mechanical Engineering Intern supporting HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems design at Stratus, an integrated engineering and design firm. Assisting with calculations, documentation, coordination, and site observations.

Responsibilities:

  • Support engineers and designers working on HVAC, plumbing, process, fuels, and other mechanical systems for building and infrastructure projects
  • Assist with mechanical drawings, calculations, equipment research, reports, and other project documentation
  • Support the design and coordination of HVAC, plumbing, process, and related mechanical systems
  • Participate in project meetings, site visits, field observations, and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Gain hands-on exposure to mechanical design principles, load calculations, technical software, energy efficiency, multidisciplinary coordination, and project delivery
  • Learn how engineering principles, design tools, codes, and technical standards are applied to real projects
  • Learn how system loads, equipment selections, layouts, specifications, and project deliverables are developed
  • Learn how mechanical systems are coordinated with architectural, structural, electrical, and other project disciplines

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Completion of relevant engineering, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, HVAC, or technical coursework
  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles
  • Basic proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit and Microsoft Office applications
  • Preferred: Internship, co-op, or project experience related to mechanical or building systems design
  • Preferred: Familiarity with load calculation, energy modeling, or equipment selection software
  • Preferred: Involvement in ASHRAE, ASME, or related professional organizations
