Job Description
Middle school math teacher delivering personalized virtual instruction for Dogwood Virtual School. Monitoring student progress, supporting families, and preparing students for standardized tests.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver specific course content in an online environment
- Provide instruction, support, and guidance while managing the learning process
- Personalize learning according to students’ individual needs
- Monitor student progress through Stride K12’s learning management system
- Work closely with students and parents/learning coaches to advance learning toward established goals
- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
- Differentiate instruction based on student mastery
- Augment course content using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools under principal and coach guidance
- Maintain the grade book and ensure student academic integrity
- Make student placement and promotion decisions
- Alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families
- Communicate with and respond to students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner
- Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues and basic virtual-classroom troubleshooting
- Travel as required, on average once per month and/or approximately 20% of the time, for professional development, student testing, and school functions
Requirements:
- North Carolina Middle School Math Teaching Certification Required
- Must reside in North Carolina
- Bachelor's degree
- Active state teaching license
- Ability to clear required background check
- Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
- Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school
- Experience working with proposed age group
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
- Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or brick-and-mortar environment
- Experience with online learning platforms
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data and use it to drive instructional decisions
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
- Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum
