Job Description

Middle school math teacher delivering personalized virtual instruction for Dogwood Virtual School. Monitoring student progress, supporting families, and preparing students for standardized tests.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specific course content in an online environment
  • Provide instruction, support, and guidance while managing the learning process
  • Personalize learning according to students’ individual needs
  • Monitor student progress through Stride K12’s learning management system
  • Work closely with students and parents/learning coaches to advance learning toward established goals
  • Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
  • Differentiate instruction based on student mastery
  • Augment course content using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools under principal and coach guidance
  • Maintain the grade book and ensure student academic integrity
  • Make student placement and promotion decisions
  • Alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress
  • Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families
  • Communicate with and respond to students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues and basic virtual-classroom troubleshooting
  • Travel as required, on average once per month and/or approximately 20% of the time, for professional development, student testing, and school functions

Requirements:

  • North Carolina Middle School Math Teaching Certification Required
  • Must reside in North Carolina
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Active state teaching license
  • Ability to clear required background check
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school
  • Experience working with proposed age group
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
  • Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or brick-and-mortar environment
  • Experience with online learning platforms
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data and use it to drive instructional decisions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
  • Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum
