Job Description

Online middle school math teacher delivering personalized instruction for Texas Virtual Academy students. Monitoring progress, engaging families, and preparing learners for standardized tests.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specific course content in an online environment
  • Provide instruction, support, and guidance
  • Manage the learning process and focus on students’ individual needs
  • Monitor student progress through Stride K12’s learning management system
  • Work closely with students and parents/learning coaches to advance learning toward established goals
  • Provide synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
  • Personalize learning for all students
  • Differentiate instruction based on student mastery level
  • Augment course content using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools under principal and coach guidance
  • Maintain the grade book and ensure student academic integrity
  • Make student placement and promotion decisions
  • Alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress
  • Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families
  • Communicate with and respond to students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional, and basic virtual-classroom troubleshooting issues
  • Travel as required, averaging once per month or approximately 20% of the time, for professional development, student testing, and other school requirements

Requirements:

  • Active Texas Middle School Mathematics Teaching Certification
  • Residency in Texas
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Active state teaching license
  • Ability to clear required background check
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday
  • Typically available during 9-5 or 8-4 school-defined hours
  • Experience working with the proposed age group (desired)
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology (desired)
  • Experience teaching in an online or brick-and-mortar environment (desired)
  • Experience with online learning platforms (desired)
  • Ability to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data (desired)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint (desired)
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms (desired)
  • Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum (desired)
