Job Description

Online visiting professor teaching inpatient coding to undergraduate and graduate healthcare students at DeVry University. Developing course materials, assessments, and online learning activities while supporting student outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and provide an approved DeVry University syllabus aligned with terminal course objectives
  • Organize, prepare, revise, and update course materials
  • Use online technologies and course-related software, including websites, email, and online discussions
  • Model effective oral and written communication to engage students and improve learning
  • Set course expectations, objectives, assignment and examination dates, and evaluation weightings
  • Ensure examinations align with course terminal objectives
  • Prepare and grade exams consistently and fairly, providing timely student feedback
  • Integrate responsible AI technologies into classroom teaching and learning
  • Recognize, evaluate, and address appropriate and inappropriate student use of AI tools
  • Facilitate student learning in accordance with DeVry University requirements
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a healthcare-related field
  • 18 graduate credit hours in the subject being taught
  • Unofficial graduate-level transcripts must be uploaded with the application
  • Degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or equivalent international accreditation
  • Inpatient coding experience
  • Current industry experience in a healthcare setting
  • Current industry-related certification: CCS
  • Minimum of five years of recent in-field inpatient coding experience
  • Working knowledge of electronic health/medical records
  • Working knowledge of IT systems and functions within healthcare
  • Working knowledge of health insurance and reimbursement
  • Working knowledge of health privacy and ethics
  • Working knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and billing functions
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings
  • Requisite subject matter expertise and outstanding communication skills
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in instructional technology, digital literacy, and responsible AI practices
