Job Description

Postdoctoral researcher developing power-system models for the National Laboratory of the Rockies. Forecasting demand, analyzing grid scenarios, and informing secure, affordable U.S. energy planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on the future of the U.S. power system
  • Support model design and code development for long-term energy systems planning and analysis
  • Focus on energy demand forecasting, end-use-sector load profiles, equipment stock turnover, and end-use technology adoption modeling
  • Contribute to advanced methods for capacity expansion modeling
  • Research power system planning and operation rules, trends, and issues
  • Execute quality control methods
  • Research, acquire, organize, and analyze large datasets
  • Develop flexible data architectures for infrastructure systems
  • Collaborate with analysts on other modeling teams to relate model inputs and outputs
  • Execute scenarios and analyze and interpret results for reporting
  • Communicate results internally and externally
  • Write and publish analyses in peer-reviewed journals and technical reports
  • Assist in developing proposals for new work

Requirements:

  • Recent PhD graduate within the last three years
  • Must meet educational requirements before employment start date
  • Proficiency using Python
  • Knowledge of U.S. energy systems
  • Proficiency in applied statistical and quantitative methods
  • Previous experience with energy and electricity modeling and data
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated experience presenting research findings to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Demonstrated record of publication in technical or peer-reviewed literature
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card
  • Must pass a favorable background investigation
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be authorized to access the facility under DOE rules and guidance
  • Must be able to obtain work authorization and DOE facility access
  • Must disclose and potentially disengage from prohibited Foreign Government Talent Recruitment Program participation
