Job Description
Production Editor preparing, editing, proofing, and typesetting Hearst Newspapers print editions. Presenting sports news across Texas, especially Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare editorial content for Hearst Newspapers print editions
- Perform page layout and section organization
- Make wire news decisions
- Copy edit print content
- Edit pages, including writing headlines and captions, selecting photos, and trimming stories to fit
- Proof pages
- Typeset pages by deadline
- Edit and present sports news primarily for Hearst papers throughout Texas, especially Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Austin
- Work across topics and in other parts of the operation outside sports
Requirements:
- Page layout and section organization
- Copy editing, including headline writing and caption writing
- Ability to finish and typeset a page on time
- Experience in print news production
- Ability to work with multiple products and multiple people with a customer-service focus
- Newspaper editing, headline writing and caption writing
- Aptitude in sports story and page editing is a plus
- Newspaper page proofing
- Excellent literacy in English
- CUE/CCI experience is a plus
- Sports journalism specialty and ability to work in other parts of the operation outside of sports
- Flexibility, adaptability and ability to vary editing and finishing depth across roles
