Job Description
Research and Innovation Scientist developing science-based pet supplements for PetLabCo., the DTC pet supplement leader. Guiding formulations, ingredient research, efficacy studies, compliance, and product launches.
Responsibilities:
- Support the formulation of new products for PetLabCo.’s product range alongside the R&D and NPD team
- Review and optimise current products, including ingredient scientific data, for new or existing formulations
- Support partnerships with suppliers and co-manufacturers
- Design, organise and execute studies with suitable partner organisations to generate efficacy data
- Keep up to date on relevant new ingredients and innovation
- Work with compliance to ensure ingredients, labels, and marketing claims meet evolving regulatory expectations
- Collaborate with the wider cross-functional team to support successful product launches
- Report to the VP of Research and Development
- Guide new products from early-stage innovation through formulation, substantiation, testing, and launch
- Own a portfolio of products and research relevant ingredients, formats, markets, and category trends
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's of Science in a technical area, including animal science and nutrition
- 3+ years of relevant industry experience in product formulation, R&D, or a related scientific field
- Experience with product formulation and/or new product development
- Working knowledge of ingredients, their mode of action, and quality variance
- Experience with R&D of early-stage, unproven ingredients
- Experience clearly explaining and justifying formulations and product formats
- Project management skills and hands-on experience contributing to the development and launch of new products, packages, and processes as a technical member of a cross-functional team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and learning agility
- Experience collaborating with outside partners to deliver project requirements
