Job Description

Backend Developer building TypeScript and Node.js data services for NaNLABS’ insurance wildfire-risk platform. Designing integrations, ingestion pipelines, and reliable PostgreSQL systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain backend services and APIs
  • Develop integrations with external providers through APIs, webhooks, and files
  • Design reliable data ingestion and processing workflows
  • Implement queues, workers, retries, replay mechanisms, and idempotent processes
  • Improve data quality through validation, monitoring, and reconciliation
  • Design and optimize PostgreSQL data models, queries, indexes, and migrations
  • Investigate inconsistencies and failures across different data sources
  • Own work beyond deployment, including observability, alerts, documentation, and operational support
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Data Science, business stakeholders, and external providers
  • Help define technical standards for the growing platform

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience building production backend systems
  • Strong experience with TypeScript and Node.js, or another typed backend language with an interest in working with TypeScript
  • Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL, including data modeling and performance optimization
  • Experience building integrations and operational data pipelines
  • Understanding of distributed systems and asynchronous processing
  • Experience implementing retries, idempotency, reconciliation, and failure recovery
  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to work through ambiguous technical problems
  • Clear communication skills and experience collaborating across technical and non-technical teams
  • English level B2 or higher
