Job Description
Senior C/C++ Engineer building performance-critical systems for Omilia's conversational AI infrastructure. Developing C/C++ components and specialized Asterisk-based telephony platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Own the design, development, and ongoing support of performance-critical C/C++ components across Omilia's platform
- Own resolution of scalability and performance issues affecting telephony and SIP systems
- Ensure effective time management and consistent delivery against deadlines
- Contribute as an integrated, collaborative team member across engineering and cross-functional teams
- Design, implement, and maintain C/C++ components with emphasis on performance, memory safety, and concurrency correctness
- Develop efficient applications for mission-critical systems geared for high availability and performance
- Debug complex, multi-threaded, low-level issues using gdb, valgrind, and/or strace
- Develop, extend, and maintain custom Asterisk modules for call handling, recording, and routing
- Patch, rebuild, and validate Asterisk core and third-party modules against security advisories and hardening requirements
- Identify performance bottlenecks and suggest improvements
- Develop with security principles in mind and scale services with a DevOps mindset
- Meet regularly with the line manager to review progress, manage issue resolution, and escalate critical issues
- Work effectively with other teams, units, and departments
- Support organisational priority activities and act as an Omilia ambassador
Requirements:
- 5+ years professional experience in C/C++ systems programming, including memory management, multithreading, and low-level debugging
- Experience with Git and C/C++ build systems such as CMake or Meson
- Hands-on experience modifying, compiling, and deploying Asterisk
- Experience writing APIs and/or Web Services & Microservices using C/C++
- Object-oriented analysis and design using common design patterns
- Self-motivated and driven to create extraordinary things
- Ability to work under pressure and on strict deadlines
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
- Very good written and oral communication skills in English
- Continuous innovation mindset
- Knowledge of SIP (RFC 3261) and related RFCs (SDP, RTP/RTCP, STUN/TURN/ICE) and practical dialplan authoring experience
- Experience with Java or Python programming
- Familiarity with FreeSWITCH, Kamailio, or OpenSIPS, WebRTC-to-SIP interworking, or call recording/audio codec architectures (G.711, G.729, Opus)
- Experience in regulated environments (PCI-DSS, HIPAA) where call recording and redaction requirements apply
