Job Description
Senior Combat Designer developing combat systems, enemies, and bosses for CI Games’ Soulslike titles. Implementing Unreal Engine behaviors and collaborating across teams to ship polished games.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and refine the project's combat systems
- Pitch, prototype, implement, balance, and ship enemy archetypes and bosses
- Tune animation lengths, I-frames, hit boxes, and frame data
- Structure enemy behavior alongside RPG mechanics and game progression
- Implement combat behaviors using Behaviour Trees, Animation Graphs, and Blueprints in Unreal Engine
- Provide Gameplay Programmers with technical requirements
- Build basic combat level setups to communicate design intent
- Address bugs and gameplay issues through shipping
- Collaborate with Character Art, Animation, VFX, Audio, Level Design, Art, and Production
- Create clear, concise, visually oriented design documentation
- Assess project progress using usability, focus, and in-house playtests
- Provide feedback and propose solutions to improve current and future titles
Requirements:
- 5+ years of Game Design experience
- Demonstrable prior experience as a Combat Designer for several years or in a comparable role
- Deep passion for and expertise in the Soulslike genre
- Preferably shipped at least 1 AAA title in a design capacity
- Excellent knowledge of gameplay mechanics, features, and modern game design
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine and experience creating Blueprints
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Open and creative mind with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
