Job Description
DBA managing databases for a key retail client in Brazil, focusing on Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB. Working remotely with teams in Portugal, ensuring database performance and security.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the databases supporting our Client’s applications operate securely, continuously, and with high performance.
- Implement operational processes and proactively recommend improvements aligned with best practices.
- Capacity Planning: Monitor disk space, memory, and CPU usage, and plan future hardware/cloud resource needs (e.g., tablespace management, storage sizing).
- Configure and maintain backup and data recovery processes (including simulations).
- Application-Level Security: Manage database user accounts, roles, privileges, and access control for application-specific components.
- Query Analysis: Use specialized tools (such as Explain Plan, AWR, or vendor-specific analyzers) to diagnose slow queries and propose code fixes.
- Deployment and Change Management: Manage deployment of database schema changes and code updates alongside application releases, typically via CI/CD pipelines.
- System-Level Security: Manage operating system and network security for database servers, and handle user/instance access and authentication at the system level.
- Collaborate with developers and architects on logical and physical design of schemas, tables, indexes, and views to meet application requirements.
- Improve monitoring and error-prevention methods (e.g., diagnostic or corrective automation).
- Participate in and develop project activities related to this scope.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in similar roles.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise databases such as Oracle and/or commercial SQL systems (on-premises and cloud).
- Hands-on experience with open-source engines such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB (on-premises and cloud).
- Lifecycle management experience for database engines and related components.
- Backup and Recovery (DR/HA): Design, implement, and test backup and recovery strategies (RTO/RPO), and configure high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions (e.g., Data Guard, Always On, replication).
- Experience working with software development teams to specify relational models, database structures, views, and queries.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Availability to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
- Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
