Job Description
Senior Engineer owning architecture, production systems, and geospatial mapping features at Ryz Labs. Building geometry, routing, and field-use functionality from real-world data.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of key parts of the platform, from system design and architecture to production code and long-term reliability.
- Own parts of the platform architecture as the team grows.
- Own the map and geometry layer, including extracting geometry from documents, placing it at real latitude and longitude, measuring it, and exporting it for field use.
- Own geospatial distance, routing, and hauling-related functionality.
- Make significant architectural decisions and maintain production code.
- Maintain code quality through reviews, engineering standards, and CI.
- Implement monitoring, observability, and systems designed to fail safely when outputs cannot be determined reliably.
- Maintain end-to-end ownership of systems built.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience building production software, with increasing ownership of architecture and technical decisions.
- Strong production experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
- Hands-on experience working with maps, coordinates, geometry, or geospatial data in a real-world application.
- Experience with one or more of the following: GIS, GeoJSON, KML, routing, asset mapping, fleet tracking, logistics, agriculture, drones, or similar geospatial applications.
- Experience working with messy real-world data, including inconsistent formats, missing fields, and unreliable or incomplete sources.
- Experience building systems where incorrect outputs can have meaningful business consequences.
- Strong judgment around data quality, correctness, and when a system should explicitly indicate that an answer cannot be determined.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Clear and effective async communication.
