Job Description
Senior Infra Engineer at Railway focusing on building and maintaining provisioning stacks and orchestration engines. A high impact role with ownership in a fast-paced, global environment.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain host provisioning stack: PXE boot, Ansible, and burn-in agents
- Evolve orchestration engine to manage clusters, containers, and VMs
- Optimize efficiency of the bin packing algorithm
- Own internal tooling for Railway engineers
- Build observability and alerting for fleet problems
- Design and maintain CI pipelines for infrastructure code
- Define infrastructure using principles of immutable infrastructure with Terraform and Ansible
- Build Golang/Rust GRPC services capable of supporting millions of users
- Write Engineering Requirement Documents for projects
Requirements:
- A strong understanding of distributed systems
- Hands-on experience with bare metal provisioning and configuration management
- Comfort building and operating internal tools
- A solid intuition about the longevity of solutions
- Ability to implement solutions and create monitors for error boundaries
- Great sense of direction and prioritization within ambiguity
- Grit to dive into problems, implement, scale and replace solutions as needed
- Great communication skills for collaboration
