Job Description
Senior Java Engineer designing Java and Python microservices for cloud-native AI systems. Providing technical leadership across AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and distributed backend services.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs, primarily in Java
- Write production-quality code as a core part of daily work
- Contribute to Python services and codebases when required
- Work across approximately three to four interconnected microservices
- Make and influence technical and architectural decisions
- Break down complex requirements and guide their technical implementation
- Review code and establish strong engineering standards
- Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance without formal line-management responsibility
- Collaborate with Product Owners to evaluate requirements, trade-offs and delivery approaches
- Build and operate cloud-native services, primarily on AWS
- Deploy and run containerised applications using Kubernetes and Docker
- Work with DevOps engineers on CI/CD, deployment, scalability and reliability
- Use data, analytics and operational insights to support technical decisions
- Contribute to testing, documentation and continuous improvement throughout the SDLC
- Support adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools and solutions where appropriate
Requirements:
- At least 6 years of professional backend engineering experience
- Strong, recent and hands-on commercial experience with Java
- Proven experience designing and developing microservices or distributed systems
- Professional experience contributing to production Python codebases
- Strong knowledge of AWS and cloud-native application architecture
- Solid hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker
- Experience designing and integrating REST APIs
- Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases
- Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software-delivery practices
- Experience influencing architecture or leading technical decisions
- Ability to review code and mentor other engineers
- Strong understanding of testing, maintainability and production code quality
- Comfortable working across several services and technical priorities simultaneously
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with technical and product stakeholders
- Professional working proficiency in English (C1+)
- Based within the European Union and able to work on a B2B contract
