Job Description
Senior engineer building Porch Group’s shared AI platform for home software and insurance. Developing agent infrastructure, MCP servers, RAG systems, LLM governance, and guardrails.
Responsibilities:
- Build out the Agentic Platform as a product for internal teams, turning repeated team-built capabilities into paved paths with sane defaults
- Design, build, and operate internal MCP servers and own standards for authentication, tool and schema design, versioning, testing, scaffolding, templates, and registry
- Build the platform layer for remote agents, including deployment, scheduling, credentialing, observability, rate limiting, and retirement
- Build guardrails for autonomous agents, including scoped permissions, human-in-the-loop approval gates, sandboxed execution, audit logging, spend controls, and blast-radius limits
- Serve as technical lead for retrieval-augmented generation patterns, vector stores, synchronization, and retrieval quality
- Own evaluation and observability for AI systems, including evaluation harnesses, golden datasets, prompt versioning, and instrumentation
- Advance the agentic developer experience through internal plugins, skills libraries, code review agents, remediation agents, and migration tooling
- Extend and operate the Portkey LLM gateway, including provider and model coverage, routing, secure access, governance, PII monitoring, and cost attribution
- Build reference implementations and proofs of concept, then hand them off to production-owning teams
- Set standards and playbooks, mentor engineers, advise leadership on build versus buy, and participate in an on-call rotation
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 2+ years building LLM-powered systems that reached production
- At least 2 years in a senior or technical lead role
- Production-grade Python proficiency
- JVM fluency, including confidently modifying large Java or Kotlin codebases and SBT, Maven, or Gradle build tooling
- TypeScript/Node.js strongly preferred
- Hands-on MCP experience building servers or clients, including tool and schema design and authentication
- Agent orchestration experience with LangGraph or equivalent, including context and state management
- Production RAG experience with vector stores, embedding models, chunking, retrieval strategies, and incremental synchronization
- Experience evaluating non-deterministic systems using evaluation harnesses, regression suites, quality gates, and prompt versioning
- Production experience with Claude Code or comparable agentic coding tools
- Security judgment for agentic systems, including prompt injection defense, sandboxed execution, scoped credentials, audit logging, and blast-radius containment
- Kubernetes and cloud experience, ideally GCP including GKE, IAM, GCS, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, and BigQuery
- Experience with GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, Docker, and observability tooling such as Datadog, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry
- Strong written communication and ability to turn business problems into reusable capabilities, proofs of concept, standards, and tested code
- Comfort participating in an on-call rotation
- Ability to overlap 2–3 hours with Pacific Standard Time core US business hours
- Proven experience working with US based business teams
- Excellent written and communication skills in English language
