Job Description
Senior Python Engineer building real-time collaborative editing systems for PandaDoc’s document workflow automation platform. Owning Python services, persistence, event pipelines, and AI-powered document capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Design and evolve backend systems powering real-time collaborative document editing for tens of thousands of concurrent users
- Own the content model and data persistence layer, including schema design, migrations, compatibility, and maintainability
- Build and maintain event-driven pipelines using Kafka and NATS
- Process high volumes of frontend interactions and maintain consistent document state across services
- Contribute to reliability, observability, and operational excellence across Python microservices
- Ship product features end-to-end, from backend architecture through production monitoring
- Contribute to AI-powered capabilities, including agentic document workflows
- Work on a content engineering team responsible for the content model, editor backend, data persistence, and real-time collaboration infrastructure
Requirements:
- 5+ years of Python development experience in production environments
- Strong experience with relational databases, including SQL, schema design, migrations, and query optimization
- Hands-on experience with message queues and event-driven architectures, such as Kafka, NATS, RabbitMQ, or similar
- Deep understanding of AsyncIO and concurrent systems
- Experience building and operating microservice architectures at scale
- Ability to reason about distributed systems, including consistency, ordering, and failure modes
- Understanding of the full development lifecycle, from requirements through deployment and production monitoring
- Actively use AI tools in daily workflow and critically evaluate their output
- High ownership and ability to proactively unblock work and escalate when needed
- Product-minded and customer-oriented approach
- Operational excellence, reliability, observability, and maintainability focus
- Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to collaborate while driving work autonomously
- Effective communication in English, orally and in writing
