Job Description
Senior Backend Engineer scaling payment, billing, identity, and partner-integration services. Building reliable APIs and infrastructure for Flex’s rent-payment fintech platform.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and scale services and integrations behind Payment, Billing, Identity, and partner integrations
- Lead scoping, design, and implementation for owned APIs
- Drive production rollouts to completion with minimal oversight
- Work closely with product, design, and engineering peers
- Solve renters’ problems through small, frequent iterations
- Standardize APIs, tools, and processes for external partner data sharing and payments
- Support billing and payment monitoring, operations, reliability, dashboards, SLIs/SLOs, runbooks, deployment, and on-call procedures
- Build and own platforms, tooling, and documentation for payments, wallet, and settlement finance systems
Requirements:
- Minimum of 6 years experience in software engineering
- Minimum of 4 years experience with Java
- Ability to work on a globally-distributed team with a high degree of ownership
- Experience working with technical and non-technical stakeholders, successfully aligning and setting expectations on scope and delivery
- Ability to grow in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Experience building robust, fault-tolerant systems with multiple external dependencies
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines
- Proficient in Java frameworks and tools including Spring, Gradle, JUnit, and JVM memory/performance tuning and garbage collection
- Experience with Service-Oriented Architecture, REST APIs, Message Queues, and scalable architectures
- Experience with AWS, including EKS, Aurora RDS, ElastiCache, and DynamoDB
- Experience with containerization tools
- Preferred: proficiency in CI/CD systems, preferably GitHub Actions, Git, and automation
- Preferred: observability and monitoring tools such as DataDog
- Preferred: big data platforms and tooling, including Snowflake
- Preferred: Infrastructure as Code using CDK and Terraform
- Preferred: mentoring junior engineers and elevating team standards through best practices
- Preferred: excellent written and verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration
