Job Description
Software and AI Architect designing Python, Node.js, Kubernetes, and LLM systems. Building reliable AI platforms for global clients at an Ireland-based software engineering company.
Responsibilities:
- Design scalable, fault-tolerant backend systems in Python and Node.js for AI orchestration and data workflows
- Take models and agents to production
- Design and version prompts, implement guardrails and evaluations, establish tracing and observability, and optimize latency and cost
- Build robust data pipelines for retrieval, embeddings, and evaluation workflows
- Design and implement React applications in TypeScript with modern state management
- Run services on Kubernetes, including containerization, Helm, CI/CD, autoscaling, secrets management, and monitoring
- Participate in on-call responsibilities
- Make and document architectural decisions with tradeoffs around performance, cost, reliability, and maintainability
- Raise engineering standards through code reviews, testing, performance profiling, documentation, and mentoring
- Collaborate with product, QA, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable, measurable features
Requirements:
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with products shipped and maintained in production
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong command of data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis
- Understanding of operating system and networking basics: processes, threads, memory, I/O, HTTP, TCP/IP, and DNS
- Strong system design skills for scalable, fault-tolerant, maintainable architectures
- Clean, well-structured code following SOLID principles, with sound design patterns and sensible abstractions
- API design experience with REST, GraphQL, or gRPC, including contracts, versioning, and backward compatibility
- Database fundamentals including data modeling, normalization, indexing, transactions, isolation levels, query optimization, and migrations
- Strong testing discipline covering unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
- Strong debugging and performance skills, including profiling, finding bottlenecks, and fixing memory, latency, and scaling problems
- Python as a primary production language, with type hints and mypy or pyright
- Async programming with asyncio, and knowledge of when to use threads, processes, or async
- FastAPI or similar frameworks, and Pydantic for data validation
- Hands-on experience with applied AI and LLM engineering
- Production Kubernetes experience, including Helm or Kustomize, Horizontal Pod Autoscaler, Ingress, service mesh basics, and Prometheus/Grafana logging and metrics
- CI/CD with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, and strong Docker practices
