Job Description
Staff Engineer building Redcare Pharmacy’s Java-based headless checkout platform. Shaping architecture, APIs, and distributed commerce foundations for Redcare Pharmacy, Europe’s leading e-pharmacy.
Responsibilities:
- Build and evolve the Core Commerce Services platform
- Create scalable, channel-independent checkout capabilities from technical discovery and design through production
- Define APIs, domain boundaries, and integration patterns
- Make decisions around scalability, reliability, security, observability, and maintainability
- Align technical decisions and integration contracts across Checkout, Payment, and dependent teams
- Maintain clear ownership boundaries across engineering domains
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design discussions, code reviews, and technical feedback
- Raise engineering standards across the team
- Partner with Product to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions
- Establish foundations for AI-powered assistants, agentic commerce, and emerging channels
Requirements:
- Strong Java and backend engineering expertise
- Experience designing and building backend services, platforms, and large-scale distributed systems
- Hands-on production coding experience
- Staff/Principal-level experience or equivalent senior technical leadership
- Strong system design and architecture capabilities
- Ability to take significant technical ownership with a high level of autonomy
- Comfort working in greenfield/0-to-1 environments
- Ability to explore options, evaluate trade-offs, and make pragmatic technical decisions
- Strong track record of mentoring engineers and leading through influence
- Experience with headless or traditional checkout, order management, SaaS/platform engineering, e-commerce, or marketplaces is a plus, not a requirement
