Job Description
Staff Software Engineer leading Kyber, Airbnb’s UI prototyping and rapid deployment platform. Scaling cloud infrastructure and enabling designers, engineers, and product managers to build product prototypes.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the prototyping and rapid deployment platform, Kyber
- Drive implementation, maintenance, and scaling of a system supporting thousands of internal projects and users
- Rebuild Kyber onto next-generation cloud platforms
- Evolve Kyber capabilities to support the product development process
- Integrate Kyber into Airbnb's ecosystem and prototyping workflows
- Set technical direction and make architectural decisions for rapid deployment of internal applications and product feature prototypes
- Write and review code hands-on and with AI coding agents
- Establish and demonstrate standards for quality, availability, and system health
- Partner with Infrastructure, Product, Security, and Design
- Enable Product Managers, Designers, and other non-technical builders to create rich product feature prototypes
- Mentor engineers through design reviews and technical guidance
Requirements:
- 9+ years of industry experience, ideally within fast-paced environments
- Track record of delivering large-scale service-oriented systems
- Broad full-stack engineering capability across backend, frontend, mobile, APIs, and system architecture
- Proven experience building customer-facing products from zero to one
- Experience contributing to product definition, technical architecture, development, and launch
- End-to-end product ownership experience, including iterating on launched products and responding to customer feedback
- Strong architectural design skills, including high-scale distributed services, well-designed APIs, data pipelines, efficient algorithms, and reliable integrations
- Sound technical judgment balancing delivery speed, experimentation, scalability, and long-term engineering quality
- Product-first engineering mindset
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity
