Job Description
Remote Test Automation Engineer building UI, API, and integration test frameworks for a U.S. Government client. Improving reliability, coverage, and defect prevention across modern application stacks.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain automated testing solutions for complex applications and services
- Define automation test strategies and plans aligned with enterprise goals and delivery timelines
- Design, implement, and maintain UI, API, and integration test automation frameworks and suites
- Create, document, execute, and analyze complex test scenarios, including edge cases and failure-mode coverage
- Communicate test results to stakeholders
- Participate in system integration and validation activities
- Establish and maintain quality control standards, reliability and regression programs, test data management, and traceability
- Ensure testing procedures comply with applicable security, accessibility, performance, SDLC, and organizational standards
- Identify systemic issues in test coverage, tooling, environments, or processes and implement measurable improvements
- Provide feedback and recommendations for product and design changes based on test outcomes and defect trends
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve testability, observability, and defect prevention
- Coordinate with vendors or suppliers on component-level testing, tooling, and test data requirements
- Provide technical leadership through mentoring, best practices, and contributions to shared frameworks and standards
Requirements:
- Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline preferred, not required
- 8+ years of experience in software quality assurance/control, software development, and/or related field
- Strong experience building automated tests using TypeScript/JavaScript and/or Java or C#
- Hands-on experience with React, Next.js, or Angular, including component and UI testing
- Proficiency with Testing Library, UI automation, API testing, contract testing, and reliable test design
- Experience testing backend services and microservices, including Spring Boot
- Experience managing dependencies and builds with tools such as Maven
- Experience with container-based integration testing, such as Testcontainers
- Ability to design maintainable automation frameworks using clean code, modularity, version control, and CI/CD integration
- Strong troubleshooting, defect isolation, root-cause analysis, and test-result interpretation skills across UI, API, data, and environment layers
- Ability to improve quality processes, define standards, and drive adoption across teams
- Strong written, verbal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development and testing workflows using OpenCode, Claude Code, and Gemini Vertex AI
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have permanent residence status (Green Card)
- Must be able to obtain Public Trust Clearance
- Must have lived in the United States for the past 5 years
- Cannot have more than 6 months of travel outside the United States within the last 5 years, excluding military service
- Experience with Rational or Mercury defect tracking tools is a plus
- Strong analytical skills for test case design and result interpretation
