Job Description
Bilingual Credit Counselor helping consumers through ACCC’s nonprofit credit counseling and debt-management programs. Reviewing finances, recommending repayment solutions, and enrolling qualified clients remotely.
Responsibilities:
- Build trust and rapport with clients from various backgrounds
- Answer inbound calls from individuals seeking financial education or credit counseling support
- Conduct one-on-one credit counseling sessions by phone
- Review client budgets, income, credit, and debt obligations
- Provide personalized recommendations on debt management programs, bankruptcy options, credit remediation, collections, and credit reporting issues
- Deliver financial education and create client budgets
- Assist with enrollment into ACCC programs
- Process consumer applications by entering client information and budget details into internal systems and affiliate databases
- Follow up with prospective clients to encourage them to begin or continue counseling
- Enroll qualified clients into debt consolidation or financial assistance programs
- Verify client information using internal databases and approved sources
- Recommend tailored debt management plans and repayment strategies
- Educate clients on credit reports, credit scores, and healthy financial habits
- Document client interactions and maintain accurate, confidential records
Requirements:
- Fluent English & Spanish – required
- Sales experience – required
- West Coast candidates – required
- Strong closing, persuasion, and relationship-building skills
- Naturally empathetic with excellent listening skills
- Comfortable discussing finances and recommending solutions
- Call center, financial services, credit, banking, or counseling experience is a plus
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelors preferred
- 1–2 years of experience in credit counseling, financial coaching, or debt management
- NFCC Credit Counselor Certification to be obtained within the first six months of employment
- Experience analyzing client budgets, income, and debt to create actionable repayment plans
- Experience providing one-on-one counseling or coaching to clients in a confidential setting (phone and/or online)
- Day-to-day proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer (up to 8+ hours/day)
- Talking on the phone for extended periods of time
- Frequent use of hands/fingers for typing and operating a keyboard, mouse, and phone
- Ability to wear a headset for extended periods
- Vision sufficient to read computer screens and documents
- Hearing sufficient to understand customer conversations via phone
- Occasional walking or standing, depending on office layout or home setup
- Lifting up to 10–15 lbs., such as small office supplies or materials (optional; depends on setting)
- Knowledge of credit reports, credit scoring, and consumer lending preferred
- Experience educating clients on credit reports, scores, and healthy financial habits preferred
- Experience recommending debt management plans and repayment strategies preferred
- Availability to work one Saturday per month preferred
