Job Description
Senior Cloud Architect leading a large-scale federal cloud migration program. Providing technical leadership and managing execution in a fast-paced, Agile environment.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the technical delivery leader for a large-scale federal cloud migration program, owning outcomes from architecture through deployment, stabilization, and operational readiness.
- Provide technical leadership in the design, review, and enhancement of cloud-based architectures, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, compliant, and aligned with federal and organizational standards.
- Drive execution with urgency, maintaining momentum across teams and stakeholders while proactively addressing risks, dependencies, and delivery obstacles.
- Lead through ambiguity and adversity, including shifting requirements, constrained resources, legacy environments, and stakeholder resistance.
- Manage upward communication and escalation, ensuring leadership has timely visibility into risks, blockers, tradeoffs, and required decisions.
- Collaborate with end users, business stakeholders, and technical teams to define and translate requirements into actionable cloud solutions.
- Lead cross-functional teams in defining technical specifications, system designs, and data architectures for secure cloud-based systems.
- Partner with program management to plan and manage strategy, milestones, sequencing, and delivery plans aligned to program objectives.
- Estimate level of effort and resource needs, identifying capacity gaps early and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Anticipate, track, and resolve technical risks and issues throughout planning and execution.
- Own cloud migration process and schedule end to end, including cutover planning, contingency and rollback strategies, and post-deployment validation.
- Develop technical roadmaps and contribute to product and platform vision, balancing near-term delivery with long-term modernization goals.
- Produce clear, high-quality technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design documents, roadmaps, and as-built artifacts.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, including engineers, program managers, executives, and federal customers.
- Present strategies, risks, and roadmaps to leadership to drive alignment and enable timely decisions.
- Continuously improve delivery practices, standards, and guidelines, acting as a force multiplier for the program.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience as a Cloud Architect, with demonstrated progression into senior technical leadership and delivery ownership roles.
- 10+ years of experience in progressive cloud engineering roles
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience delivering complex cloud solutions in regulated environments.
- Proven experience as a technical lead on cloud programs, including solution architecture, requirements management, and product ownership, with accountability for delivery outcomes.
- Experience leading cloud-enabled transformation programs, preferably within the federal government.
- Strong consulting skills with demonstrated ability to lead through influence, manage upward, and drive urgency and accountability across stakeholders.
- Experience using Productivity tools including: Microsoft Office Suite and Visio to develop clear explanations of complex technical activity (architectures, projects roadmap, applications, etc.) with the ability to target audiences that vary from technical to non-technical.
- Strong, hands-on experience with the Microsoft Cloud stack, including Azure and Entra ID and ability and willingness to learn additional as needed.
- Experience using Microsoft Graph, PowerShell, and Azure CLI to automate and streamline cloud delivery.
- Experience implementing Microsoft cloud identity solutions, including Conditional Access, application federation, hybrid identity, identity governance, Azure RBAC, managed identities, and service principals.
- Experience with NIST SP 800-series frameworks, particularly NIST 800-53 and 800-63, and relevant CISA guidance.
- Hands-on experience documenting security controls, implementing cloud security baselines, and supporting ATO activities.
- Experience with DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, configuration management, and compliance as code.
- Experience with a second cloud platform (AWS or GCP) preferred.
- Federal experience required.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Public Trust clearance (active Public Trust strongly preferred).
