Job Description
Cloud Engineer III building WoodmenLife’s secure Azure platform for life insurance operations. Owning landing zones, governance, automation, observability, and hybrid cloud engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Design and engineer complex Microsoft Azure platform solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards
- Own and evolve Azure platform domains including identity, networking, governance, and DevOps pipelines
- Integrate hybrid cloud environments using Azure networking and identity services
- Develop Infrastructure as Code using Bicep, PowerShell, and Azure CLI
- Advance Azure Landing Zone governance, identity, networking, and security components
- Implement and operationalize cloud standards, engineering patterns, and guardrails
- Enhance observability with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
- Implement cloud cost optimization and financial transparency practices, including tagging, budgeting, and usage analytics
- Lead monitoring, analysis, and optimization of cloud resource utilization and platform performance
- Develop CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and Git-based workflows
- Build automation frameworks for provisioning, monitoring, and operational tasks using AI-assisted engineering tools
- Develop reusable templates, scripts, and modules for self-service platform capabilities
- Embed governance controls, policy enforcement, and configuration management into automation workflows
- Mentor Systems Engineers and technical peers
- Support Agile ceremonies and contribute knowledge, documentation, tooling, and best practices to the Cloud Center of Excellence
- Implement Azure governance controls including Azure Policy, RBAC, and resource organization
- Support Entra ID identity governance and least-privilege models
- Lead cloud Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning and implementation
- Implement resilient, highly available solutions with availability zones, automated failover, and cloud-native backups
- Evaluate emerging Azure, AI, and automation capabilities and recommend platform enhancements
- Provide technical guidance on cloud engineering best practices and modern architectural approaches
Requirements:
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; WoodmenLife will not sponsor work visas

- 10+ years of progressive IT infrastructure or platform engineering experience, including recent, sustained hands-on experience designing and operating enterprise-scale Azure environments
- Deep expertise in Infrastructure as Code; Bicep preferred, with strong scripting and automation experience required
- Advanced Windows/Linux, Entra ID/AD, and hybrid networking background
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and modern Git-based workflows
- Proven experience with cloud cost management, observability, and performance optimization
- Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring skills
- Extensive governance experience with Azure Policy, RBAC, and tagging standards
- Expertise with ExpressRoute, VPN, and Private Endpoints
- Experience supporting modernization, migration, and automation initiatives
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
- Exposure to App Services, Functions, or AKS preferred
- Recent hands-on Azure platform engineering experience in enterprise environments strongly preferred
- Familiarity with GitHub Copilot or Azure-native AI capabilities is a plus
- Preferred certifications: AZ-305, AZ-400, and AZ-500
- Successful completion of applicable criminal background, credit, fingerprint, drug screen, and reference checks required as a condition of employment
